Carmel Wins 5A Title

Carmel beat Penn 54-0 Saturday to win its seventh overall Indiana state football championship.
The Greyhounds, who have now played in five of the last six title games, used a tough defense to knock-off Penn, which entered the game undefeated. Carmel held Penn to 186 yards in total offense and ten first downs.
Both schools finish with 14-1 records.

With Saturday's 42-7 win over South Bend Washington in the Class 4A championship game, Indianapolis Cathedral has now won two straight state titles; four in six; and nine overall.
The Irish defense came-up big with five takeaways and five quarterback sacks. They also kept record-setting receiver Gehrig Dieter "in-check", allowing five catches for 168 yards and a touchdown. However, the 168 yards set a new championship game record.
For the season, Dieter caught 82 balls for 2,181 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The Trojans beat South Bend St. Joseph's 21-7 to win the Class 3A title. It was Bishop Chatard's 11th overall crown, which moves it past Fort Wayne Bishop Luers. Luers won its 10th title on Friday.
It was the second straight year that the Trojans beat St. Joe's for the 3A title.

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers matched Lafayette Central Catholic's three straight titles with a 41-17 win over Evansville Mater Dei in the Class 2A championship. The title was the 10th for the Knights, which ties them for the most in state history with Bishop Chatard, which plays Saturday in the 3A title game.
Luers head coach Matt Lindsay has been around for nine of the titles, which ties him with Sheridan's Larry "Bud" Wright for the most for a coach.
The Knights dominated behind quarterback James Knapke, who completed 17-of-25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Jaylon Smith rushed for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Knights became the first team to finish with three straight 15-0 seasons, and currently owns the state's longest active win streak at 45, which is the second longest in Indiana history.
Purdue-recruit Danny Anthrop led LCC with 255 yards and three touchdowns. The senior running back finished with 51 total TDs.
